FIRST ENCOUNTERED THE BLUES in his high school days in the early 1970s in Olpe, Germany. At night, Martin listened to T-Bone Walker, Muddy Waters, B.B. King, John Lee Hooker and others on the radio. Since then he has been collecting blues & jazz records and discs of world music.
Martin travelled around the USA several times in the 1980s, visited the centers of the blues and wrote articles for mags like “Jazz Podium” and “Blues Life”. The US magazine “Living Blues” printed his photos.
He worked for the German newspaper “Frankfurter Rundschau” from 1985 to 2012. There he published blues features as well as stories about people and cultures of Australia, New Zealand and remote Pacific Islands off the beaten track – like Kiribati, Nauru, Vanuatu, Tuvalu, Niue and the Cooks.
Martin lives in Frankfurt/Main, Germany.
